New rules to help protect pension savers from scammers have today become law. Under the regulations, pension trustees and scheme managers will be given the power to stop suspicious transfers before cash gets into the hands of fraudsters.

A former pensions minister has urged people to use this Bank Holiday weekend as an opportunity to check if elderly relatives or neighbours are missing out on £1,000s a year in pension credit, with recent figures showing up to £1.8 billion remains unclaimed. State pensions are expected to rise by 2.5% next April under the 'triple lock' guarantee – meaning an increase of about £230/year for those receiving the new state pension in full.
