Or bag of sweets. For your birthday via Sparks app

If you download the M&S Sparks app (available for free on Android and Apple) then update your Sparks profile with your date of birth you can get something sweet for your birthday.

MSE staff have received different offers, though we're unsure how it chooses this. Birthday offers we've spotted within the last six months include:

  • Either a free pack of All Butter cookies (normally £2.50) or a pack of white, red or mixed grapes (normally £2-£3).

  • Either a free bag of Percy Pig or Colin Caterpillar sweets (both normally £2)

  • A tub of 'Mini Bites' (normally £3.50-£3.90)

There's no spend required, this is a total freebie. Just scan your Sparks app at the till to claim.

If you fancy a pizza, but want to save your dough, this M&S meal deal could be one for you.

Go into an M&S (find your nearest*) and you can pick up its £12 Pizza Night dine-in meal deal which includes two pizzas and two sides. M&S says this'll feed four. This is an on-going offer with no end date. A pizza would usually cost £6 by itself, so with another and two sides, we think this is good value.

What's on the menu?

The M&S website* lists 11 pizzas and 14 sides to to mix and match as you wish (subject to availability). A few highlights we spotted on the menu include:

Pizzas 🍕

  • Stonebaked smoky BBQ chicken

  • Stonebaked feta and caramelised onion

  • Plant Kitchen stonebaked vegan three cheese

Sides 🥦

  • Chicken munchies

  • Dirty fries

  • Garlic doughballs

Including free Click & Collect, haggling tips and multi-buy offers

There are always ways to save money at M&S*, so even if there isn’t a cracking deal out there that works for you, don’t assume you can’t cut your costs further.

Ways to save include:

  • Free Click & Collect. Every online purchase is eligible for free Click & Collect and there's no minimum spend required.

  • Try haggling. In May 2016 we polled 1,400 MoneySavers to see in which shops they had most success and M&S came in the top 10, with a 39% success rate - so it's worth a go. Read our Haggle on the High Street guide for more haggling tips.

  • Check the online offers page. The M&S offers page* lists offers from all departments - these are often on multi-buys, so it's worth checking if you need to buy more than one of something.

  • Check out similar retailers, for example John Lewis. If you're not committed to buying from M&S, check out our deals from John Lewis, House of Fraser, and Very, where there may be a better offer.

  • Had a problem with M&S? There’s a free online tool you can use to complain – it helps draft, manage and if necessary escalate your complaint. It’s offered by a firm called Resolver, which we like so much we work with it to help people get complaints justice – you can use it to complain to M&S*.

If you spot any hot deals out there we have missed (we are human after all!), please let us know on Twitter @MSE_Deals or by emailing msedeals@moneysavingexpert.com..

M&S 'up to 50% off' sale*

Says it doesn't participate in Black Friday but offers a range of deals in November

M&S* doesn't officially take part in the Black Friday sales (if it follows previous years, you won't find the words 'Black Friday' mentioned on its website), however, from Wednesday 13 November it started 'Unmissable Offers' – for example 25% off beauty and 'up to 30% off' selected brands.

It has also launched an 'up to 50% off' sale*. The offers started well with M&S often being cheapest for big brands, however since other retailers have started their sales, it's now consistently beaten.

Some offers are online only, while others can be shopped in-store. There's no end date to this sale – it's running while stocks last.

A few examples we spotted when we checked on Friday 28 November:

What does 'up to 50% off' mean?

  • Min discount we spotted: 20%

  • Max discount we spotted: 60%

  • Typical discount based on 10 random items: 43%

Important: Don't get caught up in the Black Friday hype, and keep our money mantras in mind – only ever buy what you need and can afford. You should always do your own price comparisons to ensure you’ve found the best deal available – don't simply take a retailer's word for it.

M&S Black Friday prediction*

'Doesn't take part'... but has discounts on select departments/brands

🗓️ Predicted from Monday 24 November till Monday 1 December

Every year, M&S tells us that it isn't participating in Black Friday, but very conveniently runs discounts across select departments/brands. Last year saw offers such as 'up to 40% off' selected homeware, 'up to 30% off' Sketchers, 30% off Adidas, and 25% off Monsoon. All the brands we spotted were either cheaper or price-matched elsewhere, so we're hoping for deeper discounts this year.

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
What the * means above
If a link has an * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.
You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
