If you’re a Halfords Motoring Club member (or sign up for free), you can get a free 10-point car health check as part of your membership. You can book your check at a store or online at Halfords, and have it at most of its stores and garages (find your nearest). Premium members (£5.49 a month or £54 a year) can get two 10-point car checks a year.

It takes about 30 minutes for the 10-point check, which normally costs £15. You can book these seven days a week from store/garage opening until closing time. Simply book in your car by choosing your time slot online or in-store. You need to be signed in to the Halfords Motoring Club for the check to show as free in your basket, which is different to the Halfords website.

There's no obligation to buy anything or act on any advice you're given, though Halfords could try to upsell you throughout the process. Halfords told us it doesn't offer this service in some city centres due to parking restrictions.

Book your free check online

Halfords is offering a free bicycle health check at all of its stores (find your nearest). All you have to do is book a slot at a time that suits you, and a member of staff will do a 32-point pre repair assessment check. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and covers all of the following:

Frame, Saddle and Handlebars
Wheels; Tyres, Rims, Spokes and Hubs
Brake system; Levers, Calipers, Pads and Cables
Drivetrain; Gears, Levers, Chain, Bottom Bracket, Cranks and Cables

Obviously, it's no coincidence Halfords is doing these checks when it also sells bike parts and cycling accessories. They may try and book you in for a repair or might try to upsell products to you (eg, new tyres, saddle etc), but there's no obligation to act on any advice you're given, or to buy anything.

This check does include electric bikes, but if they are non-Halfords E-bikes staff will only be able to carry out mechanical work.

If you go online to Halfords and sign up to its free Motoring Club, you can get a £5 off £30 'welcome' voucher to use in store or online. Halfords confirmed the £5 voucher can be used on any product or service (excluding gift cards), and is valid for 12 months from when you sign up.

If you're shopping online, you'll have the option to select the £5 voucher in your basket once you've added the items you'd like to buy. If you're shopping in a store simply log into your account, select 'My Account', then select 'Rewards & Benefits' and show the QR code at the checkout.

Halfords launched its Black Friday sale on Thursday 6 November, and has discounts running until Wednesday 3 December.

There are deals across a range of products including bikes, tyres, dash cams and car seats. There isn't a blanket discount across everything – there are varying offers such as 50% off select car cleaning materials, and 'up to 30% off' selected electric bikes.

When we checked on Monday 10 November, there were 323 items in the sale. There were around 500 last year, so it's likely there'll be more lines added in the run-up to Black Friday.

If you go online to Halfords* you can get up to 30% off selected items in its Black Friday sale until 11.59pm on Monday 2 December. Delivery is free when you spend £20 or more, but bulky items, pre-built items and online exclusives will incur an extra charge.

In 2021, Halfords offered discounts of up to 40%, but the discount hasn't been that deep since.

Also, for the past two years Halfords offered a 'Lowest Price Guarantee' for products bought between the Black Friday sale period where if it reduced the price of a product you've already bought, you'd be refunded the difference within two weeks via a gift card. Sadly, it told us it's not bringing this back this year.

There were just over 490 items in the sale when we checked.

'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100.
