Emily has over six years of experience in journalism, starting her career as a local news reporter in 2018 before joining MSE in May 2021. She has tackled a range of critical topics at MSE, including consumer rights, energy, debt, and financial regulation.

Some of Emily's biggest stories include Ryanair's barring of customers who received Covid refunds, the shutdown of tax rebate firm Tax Credits Ltd for forgery, and discrepancies in the Warm Home Discount scheme. These stories have been covered by some of the UK's biggest newspaper outlets, including the Daily Mirror, the Daily Express, The Sun and The Guardian.

Emily has earned several award wins and nominations, including winning the Rising Star of the Year Award at the Headline Money Awards in 2023 and being shortlisted for the Wincott Foundation's Personal Finance Journalist of the Year Award alongside MSE founder Martin Lewis. In 2022, she also won an MHP's 30Under30 Young Journalist Award in the Personal Finance category.

Outside of journalism, Emily is passionate about writing plays and short fiction, and enjoys hiking, running, and reading.

The Government has announced a new set of wide-ranging consumer protection rules, which will require Christmas savings clubs to safeguard customers' money, firms to make it easier to cancel subscriptions and regulators to stamp out "dodgy tactics" used to lure online shoppers, plus much more. Certain financial services providers will have to verify that they are authorised by the FCA before advertising on Google from 6 September, in an effort to tackle online fraud. But the new policy doesn't apply to ads for cryptocurrency or debt services, which are already subject to other policies, and there are some other exclusions.

Barclays is compensating thousands of Blue Rewards loyalty customers after discovering some had been underpaid monthly cashback perks, MoneySavingExpert.com can reveal. The issue dates back to the launch of the scheme in 2015 with some receiving payments of £100+, although Barclays says the average payout is under £20.

Holidaymakers returning to the UK from the Balearic Islands, Malta and Madeira plus a number of other destinations won't be required to quarantine from next Wednesday (30 June), after changes were announced to the travel 'green list'. But huge uncertainty remains over travel, with the Government warning many of the destinations it's adding to the green list could drop off it again, and some European countries talking of tightening their own entry requirements for British tourists.
