The UK’s biggest consumer website, MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) welcomes Marcus Herbert as its new Editor-in-Chief – taking up the role from the 17th of September 2018.

Marcus joins from the BBC, where he’s most recently been working on digital strategy for the Director General’s office. Prior to that he was Head of Online at BBC Scotland. His broadcast credits include Assistant Editor of Newsnight, and postings at the BBC’s Moscow, Washington and New York bureaux. Also a former Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer for BBC Science programmes, Marcus has been responsible for award-winning shows such as Afterlife, Planet Ant and Supermarket Secrets.

Taking over the position of Editor-in-Chief from Jason Mills (who left in June to take up a new role in Switzerland), the role will continue to report directly to MSE’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Martin Lewis. Marcus will lead on all content and editorial at MoneySavingExpert.com.

Martin Lewis, Founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, said: "MoneySavingExpert’s consumer and campaigning journalism is unmatched, and our big independent editorial team needs a big hitter to lead it. Marcus brings an unsurpassed wealth of digital, content and journalistic experience to MSE and I’m looking forward to working with him.

"He has a great deal of experience in journalism that explains complex subjects in an accessible way without dumbing them down, and that’s what MSE strives for. We’re delighted he’s coming on board to continue to drive the great outcomes for consumers."

Marcus Herbert, newly appointed Editor-in-Chief, said: "I’m delighted to be joining MSE. As a long-term fan of the site, I’ve been impressed by its independent, passionate journalism, and its commitment to helping users get the most out of their personal finances.

"I’m really looking forward to working with the team to help build on that success, and take advantages of all the opportunities that the fast changing digital landscape offers to keep serving consumers."

Marcus will work alongside the site’s Managing Director Andy Hancock, and will be supported jointly by MSE’s Deputy Editor Guy Anker and Head of Campaigns and PR, Kirsty Good.
