Northern Ireland's largest electricity supplier Power NI is to increase electricity prices by 21.4%, meaning the typical bill for those on its standard tariff will jump by a massive £131/year.

Ampoweruk, Bluegreen Energy, Omni Energy and Zebra Power, which have over 27,000 household customers between them, have become the latest energy providers to cease trading - 17 domestic suppliers have gone bust since September. Pure Planet and Colorado Energy, which have about 250,000 customers combined, have become the latest energy providers to cease trading – making a total of 11 suppliers to go bust in the last six weeks. If you're a customer of these firms, your energy supply will continue and credit balances are protected. And while it's likely you'll pay more now, there are no savings to be had by switching due to the dire state of the market.

Around 11 million households on standard tariffs will see energy bills jump by a typical £139/year as the new price cap kicks in today. But due to the extreme situation in the energy market, with wholesale prices at record highs, there are now no deals cheaper than the new price cap.

Avro Energy and Green Supplier Limited have become the fifth and sixth energy providers to cease trading this month alone, affecting more than 800,000 households between the two firms. If you're with either company, your energy supply will continue and credit balances are protected. But DON'T switch now – sit tight and wait until your new supplier has contacted you. 

Energy suppliers People's Energy and Utility Point have both ceased trading today, affecting more than half a million households. PFP Energy, a gas and electricity supplier that has around 80,000 household customers, and small energy supplier MoneyPlus Energy, which has around 9,000 household customers, have today ceased trading. But your energy supply won't be affected. Here's everything you need to know.
