BT threw down the gauntlet to the armchair sports market this month by slashing the cost of Sky Sports to just £6.99 in some cases.

The cost of watching live Premier League football for armchair fans was slashed to just £6.99 a month today after BT announced prices for viewing Sky Sports.

BT will show live Premier League football next season, plus many more major sporting events, after confirming it has signed a deal with BSkyB to show two Sky Sports channels.

Sky will no longer allow landline customers to override its system and use prefix numbers to cut call costs from 1 July.
