As April's energy price cap increase looms, many people have contacted us shocked that their monthly energy bills have increased way above the average 54% price cap rise. Universal credit claimants and those in receipt of certain means-tested benefits will get £100 towards their energy bills this winter, the Welsh Government has announced. It comes as part of a new £51 million support package designed to help around 350,000 people with the cost of living.

Energy regulator Ofgem has announced today that it will be reviewing whether to update the energy price cap more frequently in future as a result of the "unprecedented rise in wholesale market prices and volatility". This follows its decision yesterday to increase the price cap by 54% – adding a typical £700 a year to the bills of 22 million households from April.
