If you sell goods online on sites such as eBay, Etsy or Vinted, rent out your home on Airbnb, or earn extra income from providing services via platforms including Deliveroo or Uber, then these firms will soon start passing on information about you to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). This means it's vital to check if you need to declare your income through self-assessment and possibly pay tax on it.

If you need to claim a tax refund for work-related expenses, make sure you claim directly through Gov.uk and avoid using tax rebate firms that'll pocket some of your cash. His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has revealed that seven in 10 people who claimed work-related expenses for the 2021/2022 tax year did so via an agent, missing out on receiving the full amount they could have got back.

New measures designed to protect taxpayers against "unscrupulous tactics" used by some third-party tax rebate firms have been announced by HMRC. It follows an investigation by MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) into one third-party tax rebate firm that was alleged to have submitted claims using forged signatures, without consent.

Tax rebate firm Tax Credits Ltd has been shut down after HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) found it had committed serious anti-money laundering breaches. The closure follows a MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) investigation that also found the firm was alleged to have submitted claims using forged signatures.
