If you bank with Barclays and pay to get insurance 'extras' – for example via its Barclays Additions account – you should urgently check if you've activated these; otherwise you won't be covered if something goes wrong.

Credit cards have a dirty name due to debt, but used right they're free financial armour. If you're buying something costing £100+, put just 1p of it on a card to get huge extra protection. This has just paid off for long-time MoneySaver Scott Parsley, for paying £300 of a £26,000 car on a credit card got him £10,000 back once he discovered it was faulty.

The pound's hit it's best rate against the euro for eight years, meaning holidaymakers tripping to Europe find it far cheaper than in recent memory. Currently it's hovering around £1 buys €1.43 - €1.44, a year ago it would've bought you just €1.24.

The financial crisis in Greece and ensuing euro worries mean the pound is currently buying €1.41 – a seven year record high. This would've been unthinkable this time last year when you'd have done well to get €1.25 and two years ago when €1.17 would've been worth whooping about.
