Disney+ quietly hikes prices again – can you cut costs with our tricks?

Disney+ has quietly upped the cost of all its plans for new and existing subscribers by up to £24 a year. But there are a few ways to cut costs. Here's what you need to know.
Prices across ALL Disney+ subscription plans are going up
The table below shows the new Disney+ prices, which rose for newbies on Tuesday 30 September.
-
Existing monthly subscriber? You'll pay the new price from your next billing date on or after Tuesday 4 November.
-
Existing annual subscriber? You'll pay the new price from your next billing date on or after Tuesday 25 November (so if your renewal happens to be before this date, you'll pay the old price for another year).

Our tricks for cutting costs if you want to sign up to Disney+
Some tricks for saving include:
-
See if you can get Disney+ for FREE with Uber One, plus a host of other discounts. Uber's subscription service usually costs £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year. With that, monthly Uber One subscribers can get a 'free' six-month Disney+ Standard with ads plan, while annual Uber One subscribers can get a 'free' 12-month Disney+ Standard plan.
However, many people are being offered long free Uber One trials – in some cases for up to a year. That said, feedback on being offered free Disney+ with the free Uber One trial is mixed; with Uber telling some that the promotion doesn't apply to the free trial. -
OR see if you can get Disney+ for FREE (with £200 cash on top). If you don't mind ads while streaming, Lloyds Bank's Club Lloyds current account gives you the Standard with Ads Disney+ plan free for 12 months. Plus, if you're thinking of switching banks, you can currently get a free £200 on top (though we wouldn't switch just for Disney).
The account is fee-free as long as you meet its £2,000 a month minimum pay-in – there's a £5 a month fee if you don't – and you'll need to pass a not-too-harsh credit check to open it. See our Club Lloyds analysis for full info. -
Check if you can stack Disney+ cashback offers. You can currently get up to £13.65 if you sign up to Disney+ via cashback site Topcashback* and up to £10 cashback if you sign up to Disney+ through cashback site Quidco*. Exact cashback varies depending on which Disney+ subscription you take out and which cashback site membership plan you're on (basic membership is free).
Plus, you may be able to stack this with debit or credit card offers. For example, MSE Petar spotted an offer for 15% cashback on his American Express credit card. We've also previously seen Monzo offering 15% Disney+ cashback. These offers are often personalised, so there are no guarantees – but it's worth checking. -
O2 customer? Check if you can get £2 a month off Disney+. Some O2 customers can add a monthly Disney+ plan as an 'extra' to their contract and get a discount. For full info and more options, see our Disney+ deals round-up.
Existing Disney+ user? Try the 'pretend to cancel' trick
This won't always work, but if you're paying monthly it's worth a go. When he tried to cancel this week, MSE Chris was offered £2 off the Standard with Ads plan for three months:

More ways to save on Disney+
Here are some other options:
-
Consider choosing a cheaper plan. Switching from the monthly Standard plan to the monthly Standard with ads plan could save you £48 a year, for example.
-
Pay annually instead of monthly. If you know you'll want Disney+ for a whole year, and you have the cash to pay upfront, you can save by paying for the year. For example, the cost of an annual Standard plan is £99.90 while the cost of paying monthly for 12 months is £119.88 – meaning you'd save £19.98 if you paid upfront.
-
Don't pay for more than one Disney+ subscription in a single household. Disney+ has cracked down on password sharing, but its Standard plans still let you stream on up to two devices at a time in the same house. If that's not enough, the Premium plan allows streaming on up to four devices simultaneously and is cheaper than paying for two Standard subscriptions.
-
No longer want Disney+? You can cancel penalty-free. If you cancel midway through your billing cycle, you'll be able to carry on using your account until the next billing date, but you won't get a refund on any portion unused.
How to save on streaming costs
You can read our TV MoneySaving tricks guide for full info on how to stream as cheaply as possible, but below are a few of our top tips:
-
Check for cheaper alternatives. Other big streaming services offer cheaper monthly ad-free subscriptions. For example, Paramount+ costs £7.99 a month and Channel 4+ is £3.99 a month. See our top streaming services comparison.
-
Streaming newbie? Watch over two months of top shows and movies for free. Some streaming services give free trials, including 30 days of Amazon Prime Video and seven days of Apple TV+ and Paramount+ – but always remember to cancel before you're charged if you don't want to keep it. See free streaming trials.
-
Rotate between streaming services so you're not paying for more than one at a time. It's easy to lose track of subscription costs. But with just a bit of work, you can make big savings and still watch the top shows. Pay £5 to £10 a month for a single service, then when you've seen what you want, cancel it, move on to the next one, and do the same.
What the * means above
If a link has an * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.
You shouldn't notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
