Apple has quietly upped the cost of its monthly TV+ subscription fee by £1, from £8.99 to £9.99. If you want to stick with Apple TV+ there are ways to cut costs. Alternatively, you can leave penalty-free at anytime.

The change is equivalent to an 11% or £12 a year increase and came in from 21 August 2025 for both new and existing subscribers – though in reality existing customers won't pay the increased price until their next monthly bill after this date.

Apple wouldn't tell us why it's chosen to up its prices. The last time it increased the cost of its monthly TV+ subscription was in October 2023, when it hiked prices from £6.99 to £8.99 a month.

Here's what you need to know.

Want to stick with Apple TV+? Check if you can cut costs

You've got several options:

  1. Check if you're eligible for a free trial. Existing Apple TV+ customers on a rolling contract can cancel penalty-free and take up-up short-term free trials if they meet the eligibility criteria. Offers include:
    - Three-months free from Apple if you buy an eligible Apple device.
    - One month free from Apple if you subscribe to its One service (see more on this below).
    - Up to six months free with certain EE, O2 and Virgin Media offers.
    - Two months and three weeks free by joining Currys' free loyalty scheme.

New to Apple TV+? Apple offers a seven-day free trial to new customers, while you can also get up to six months free elsewhere. See our Streaming savers for full info on offers for new and existing customers.

  2. Committed to having Apple TV+ for a year? Save £31 by paying upfront for a year. If you paid monthly for Apple TV+ for a year, it'd cost £119.88 based on the new £9.99 a month price. However, you can instead pay for Apple TV+ upfront for an annual fee of £89 (which hasn't increased as part of these latest changes) and save £30.88 over the year.

  3. Consider bundling with Apple One. If you pay separately for multiple Apple services – such as Arcade, Music and iCloud – on top of TV+, check if you can save by signing up to Apple One. This is a bundle service that combines all of Apple's offerings. There are three plans to choose from:

    - The individual plan costs £18.95 a month and comes with 50GB iCloud storage.
    - The family plan costs £24.95 a month and comes with 200GB iCloud storage.
    - The premier plan costs £36.95 a month and comes with 2TB iCloud storage, plus access to Fitness+ and News+.

  4. Rotate your streaming services. You could save by only signing up when a series you like is released. For example, paying for ad-free Apple TV+, Disney+ Standard, and Netflix Standard every month would cost £383.64 a year - compared to a maximum of £155.88 a year if you pay for just one.

Unhappy about the price rise? Ditch – and maybe switch

If you aren't happy with the price increase, you can cancel penalty-free at anytime. Just go to 'Subscriptions' in your Apple ID settings, select 'Apple TV+', and choose 'Cancel Subscription'. You'll keep your access until your next payment date.

Alternatively, you might want to consider switching to a different streaming service, some of which offer free trials so you can binge your favourite series before being charged (though remember to add a note to your diary to cancel your free trial before it ends if you don't want to continue paying for the service). Our Streaming savers guide contains examples.
