Incl checking shop layouts & haggling
There are always ways to save money at H&M, so even if there isn’t a cracking deal out there that works for you, don’t assume you can’t cut your costs further.
Ways to save include:
-
Keep an eye on shop layouts and you could find out when a sale's coming up. Items are generally laid out by season's look in stores, but when a sale's coming, they're arranged into categories, eg, trousers and tops - if you're about to purchase and you notice a layout change, it could be worth waiting.
-
Try haggling. In May 2016 we polled 1,400 MoneySavers to see in which shops hagglers have most success. H&M came out with a 50% success rate - so it's worth a go. Find out more in our Haggle on the High Street guide.
-
Check out similar retailers, eg, New Look and other fashion retailers. If you're not committed to buying from H&M, check out our deals from New Look, Asos, Next, Topshop, Topman, River Island and Zara, where there may be a better offer.

Had a problem with H&M? There’s a free online tool you can use to complain – it helps draft, manage and if necessary escalate your complaint. It’s offered by a firm called Resolver, which we work with to help people get complaints justice – you can use it to complain to H&M.

BOOSTED: H&M 'up to 40% off' selected items*
For Members only. And 20% off with
Update 8.12am Friday 28 November: H&M has added 'up to 40% off selected items' for members online and in store until 10pm on Sunday 30 November. The 20% off is still running alongside this, though don't forget this, this has a £30 minimum spend (the 40% off sale does not).
As this sale ends before Cyber Monday (1 December), we expect it could add another deal on Monday. Last year, it had 'up to 70% off selected items' so it might be worth waiting to see if the 40% off boosts to that, though of course you risk an item you want going out of stock.
If you shop online* or in stores (find your nearest*) at H&M, you can get 20% off thousands of items (in men’s, women’s, kids' and home) for its Black Friday sale until Sunday 30 November. The sale is limited to H&M members only (it's free to sign up*). The 20% is automatically applied at checkout, so there's no code needed.
There’s no minimum spend when shopping online, however you’d need to spend at least £30 in-store to save. This is a slightly worse offer this year, as there wasn't a minimum spend previously.
Delivery costs £3.99, or free if you are a member and spend £40 or more. Collection in-store is free on all orders.
Some examples we spotted on Monday 24 November:
-
Printed coir doormat* – £12 (was £14.99)
-
Slim fit long-sleeve polo shirt* – £16 (was £19.99)
-
Rib-knit cardigan* – £22.40 (was £27.99)
-
Long puffer jacket* – £44 (was £54.99)
Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
What the * means above
If a link has an * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.
You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links.
