'Best before' vs 'use by'

While 'use-by' dates are an important health warning, 'best-befores' are simply a manufacturer's guidance of quality. It's perfectly legal to sell goods beyond a best-before date. However, as there's no hard-and-fast rule on how far beyond a best-before it's still safe to eat products, you need to make that call yourself.

While look and smell are important and often the best indicators, you can't always tell with packaged items such as these, especially as you won't be able to check each item before it's delivered to you. Not everything's past its best-before date and Approved Food tends to display the date online for each product, so you'll likely know before you buy.

It has a Trustpilot score of 3.9/5 from 2,700+ reviews, and feedback on it is mixed. Some suggest bargains have recently become harder to find, and others say using the cheaper option for post makes it a much slower service. We've seen reports from users across our Forum and Trustpilot that the food arrives well packaged and in good condition, and that the food itself is decent quality.

Some users have flagged that missing or out of stock items from their order have been automatically issued with a store credit. Approved Food told us that you can get the amount refunded to your original payment method if you contact it and ask.
